Providing Thanksgiving baskets for local families in need
With so many local individuals and families struggling to make ends meet during these challenging economic times, The Hunger Coalition is pleased to announce another year of the Thanksgiving Basket Program. And you are invited to help!
The Hunger Coalition believes in the generous spirit of this community and hopes everyone will join together to ensure all our local families have an opportunity to celebrate, and be thankful, this Thanksgiving.
For more than 3,000 children and adults in our community, having enough to eat is a daily concern. You can make a difference. This is food drive season. Several local businesses are conducting food drives; watch for the big yellow bins. The top five food items needed right now are: apple sauce, canned fruit, canned meat, peanut butter and white rice.
In keeping with the spirit of giving, students from The Sage School are partnering with Pioneer Montessori and the Wood River YMCA to bake 350 homemade pies to accompany every Thanksgiving Basket. This level of commitment is inspiring and deeply appreciated!
If you are experiencing hunger and believe your family cannot provide for a Thanksgiving meal, please know your community is here to help! An application must be completed and returned to The Hunger Coalition no later than November 12th. Applications in both English and Spanish are available at The Hunger Coalition, St. Luke’s Center for Community Health, The Advocates and from all Blaine County School District social workers. Please call 788-0121, pick up an application at one of the agencies listed above, or visit: www.thehungercoalition.org.
The mailing/hand delivery address is 121 Honeysuckle Street, Bellevue or applications can be submitted via email at: tdaybaskets@thehungercoalition.org.
For those wishing to help, a cash donation to The Hunger Coalition can help ensure these families have wholesome food on their tables, and hope in their hearts, this holiday season and beyond. Your generosity will provide meaningful and nourishing food for families who may otherwise go without. Visit our website to donate online or mail checks to the food bank address above.
Thanksgiving Baskets will be distributed at The Community Campus Gym on Monday, November 19th from 4 – 6pm.
The Hunger Coalition strives to end hunger in our community by providing wholesome food to those in need and by promoting solutions to the underlying causes of hunger through collaboration, education and advocacy. For more information visit The Hunger Coalition's website linked above.
