Good Wine Gone Bad, Gone Good

Good Wine Gone Bad, Gone Good

I can’t tell you how much I am looking forward to this weekend. So you yum! followers know I have had an interesting 3 months: I’ve been moving, traveling, and hosting, so I haven’t had my house, alone, for over two months. This is just to say, it isn’t clean. My OCD is having issues with the dust, the dishes and lord–the Halloween face-paint that is tracked through EVERY room!

This weekend, I am treating myself to some house-time. It is my personal therapy to clean, have an organized house and even more important, a spotless kitchen. This weekend I am going to treat myself to a house spa.

At lunch, as I tried to make some sort of dent in the mound of dirty dishes, I found some two-week-old red wine on my counter buried between some to-be-recycled bottles (um, first–Gross. And next–I let red wine go bad??). I saved the old wine, and have decided this weekend to use it and while I scrub my floors (and watch the LSU game), cook up some recipes I have collected over the years to recharge and relax.

A Bottle of Red Wine Gone Bad
That nasty bottle I just found is going to have a purpose No, not to consume—but draw a hot bath and pour in a cup of red wine, the soak is perfectly self-indulgent.

A Body Scrub
Scour your kitchen for some ingredients and sit back and enjoy
2 cups of Epsom salt
1 cup of oil (grapeseed, oil, sunflower)
(Optional–one drop of essential oil–I like lavendar)
Mix the salt and oil (I put it in a jar), add the essential oil of choice, and the body scrub is yours.

For some Homemade Lotion Ideas
I used these all the time until one of my girlfriends, Lacey, started making homemade salve. It is AMAZING–so if you run into her in Hailey, pick some up. But here are some great alternatives.

A Foot Treatment or a Multipurpose Tonic
This is from Self Magazine, and I enjoy the tips. My feet generally need love. Juice two limes and mix them with about a liter of water. It is a great facial toner, shine-boosting hair rinse after shampooing, or breath-freshener—but I like to use it as a soak for my feet. After the soak, I like to soak a washcloth in hot water (add an essential oil here too, if you like) and roll it and weave it between my toes. Then I just sit back and enjoy a (good) glass of wine until it cools.

For my belly needs, I am making chili this weekend and then going to Divine Wine in Hailey on Monday night for their pasta nights. Each Monday is a new pasta, with wine pairing and a special dessert– yum! (Disclaimer: I work at divine!)
