yum!
A blog about food
Welcome to yum!
Appetizing. Different. Succulent. Daring. Dining. Food.
I have an obsession with food. I talk about it—love looking at it, am entertained by every experience it brings, inspired by other cultures' unique ingredients—and my zeal for the perfect bite knows no bounds.
Which is why—after years of teaching friends to cook, wowing my family with new tastes, and just generally being fascinated with the food culture—I made the exciting leap to food writing. I find it fun to share my recipes, tips, discoveries in the kitchen (failures as well!), and my experiences in the Wood River Valley with SVM readers. My goal with this blog is to give you weekly recipes and fresh ideas that you can bring home to your own kitchen.

I would love to see a series of Indian and South-east Asian recipes... like curries and noodle dishes. The new Indian restaurant opens in Hailey on Feb 1st. yum!
I love all kinds of asian food and can never seem to make it as good as home as I get when ordering out. So I would love recipes that are Thai, Japanese and Vietnamese inspired.
Hey y'all - Thanks for your input. I am SO excited about the new Indian restaurant and can't wait to try it. I have been doing some research at home and am in touch with a couple of my friends across the country (and world!) to get some authentic new flavors to share with you - and to get some easy Indian/Thai/Japanese/etc things your way. Until I can get more up there for you - check out our current Winter magazine for a fresh spring roll recipe:

How bout some caramelized onion techniques and recipes?
I made these Caramelized Shallots for X-mas. I was cooking for a lot of skeptics who were NOT excited about this dish. In the end, this was the favorite side. SUPER easy and really delicious. I paired it with grilled flat iron steaks and roasted garlic potatoes.
6 tablespoons (3/4 stick) unsalted butter
2 pounds fresh shallots, peeled, with roots intact
3 tablespoons sugar
3 tablespoons good red wine vinegar
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
2 tablespoons chopped fresh flat-leaf parsley
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.
Directions
Melt the butter in a 12-inch ovenproof saute pan, add the shallots and sugar, and toss to coat. Cook over medium heat for 10 minutes, tossing occasionally, until the shallots start to brown. Add the vinegar, salt, and pepper and toss well.
Place the saute pan in the oven and roast for 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the size of the shallots, until they are tender. Season to taste, sprinkle with parsley, and serve hot.
I'm so excited about a great local food blog. Especially for some vegetarian recipes. Always looking for new interesting good ones. Even if there was just a little side bar saying a vegetarian variation?
Thanks!! :) looking forward to it.
Hey Veg Anon - I have posted a recipe or two for you throughout the blog. Check out the 'sauces' blog as those are GREAT veg bases for lots of cooking!
Very excited to discover your blog, my long lost friend. I am excited about finding lots of new things to try as I read through your entries! If you are ever considering things to try/blog about, I'm always game for pasta, shrimp, and fish!
