The Form of Function

The Form of Function

For a some little while now, a collective of Valley-based designers, artists, architects and students have devoted their talents to creating functional works of art for the Chair-ity, an art event at the nexStage Theatre on Ketchum’s Main Street. At a gala reception last week, 41 original chairs were unveiled, and bidding was opened in a silent auction. The chairs covered the gamut from structural masterpieces to chess-themed seat to a flying Wazza Chair-mobile.

The art chairs will now be displayed around the community through Saturday, Dec. 19. Bidders may look at the chairs, then call in their bids to the theater (208) 726-4TKS. This auction will benefit the nonprofit nexStage Theatre’s productions and performing arts education scholarships as well as their “producing partners” program.

In addition to the chairs painted for “Chair-ity,” Ketchum’s design store “The Open Room” has generously donated a gorgeous modern classic leather and stainless steel armchair for a raffle drawing. Tickets for the drawing are available from the nexStage (208) 726-4TKS and in the nexStage Theatre lobby through the Dec.19 raffle drawing. Tickets cost $5 each or 5 for $20.
