Presidents Week is always a hot time in the Valley, and this year is no exception. With the Olympics getting underway just over yonder in Vancouver and snow storms teasing on the horizon, it’s a fine time in central Idaho.

 

 

 

Check this vivid variety of tunes, comedy and fun…then tune into the slew of sales around town and the offerings for Valentine’s Day on Sunday.

  • Olympic Fever Friday: Penelope's Cafe in The Galleria in Ketchum will celebrate the 2010 Winter Games and the local athletes who are competing in them with an Opening Ceremony Party on at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 12. There will be a live broadcast from Vancouver on the 120" theatre screen. Penelope's will be serving light fare, beer and wine with a portion of the sales proceeds benefitting the Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation.

  • Yucks and stomps: Sun Valley's Winter Concert Series continues Friday and Saturday night at the Boiler Room with stand-up comics Jackie Kashian and Steve Mazan. The show begins at 6:30 p.m. Cost is $15 or $10 if you show your 2010 Season Pass, Discount Pass or Lift Ticket. After the comedy gets your yucks up, stomp the rest of the night with the timeless alt-country act, Idaho’s own Jeremiah James Gang. Doors will open at 9 p.m. and the first 10 people get in free.

  • Show your love, Friday: As part of Gallery Walk, the Wood River Land Trust’s “Heart of the Valley” Awards Reception at the Blagojce Gallery in the Walnut Ave. Mall in Ketchum from 5-7 p.m. At the Open Room, see “Beyond,” for art from and for Haiti.

  • Old-time Sun Valley, Saturday: Sun Valley’s classic lounge act Joe Cannon will play his hilarious brand of music and stand-up at the Roosevelt Grille & Saloon, at 3 p.m. Tickets are available at the door, which will open at 2 p.m. for the show.

  • SUNS Action: Sun Valley SUNS hockey vs. Missoula, Friday and Saturday. Games start at 7 p.m. at the Sun Valley Ice Rink.

  • Live music can also be found over the weekend at the Duchin Lounge in the Sun Valley Lodge, The Ram and the Lobby Lounge in the Sun Valley Inn, afternoon music at River Run Lodge, Il Naso (Friday), and the Silver Dollar in Bellevue. DJ McClain spins at, yup, McClain’s Pizzeria in Hailey at 10 p.m. Saturday.

  • The Boiler Room will offer a Special Valentine Show on Sunday with a performance of the all-age friendly musical “Forever Plaid,” dinner, prize drawings, photos, chocolates and more. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. with show time at 7:30pm. Tickets are available at the door, or call 622-2135 for advance tickets. Adult tickets are $15 at the door (only $12 with valid Idaho ID), free for age 12 & under.

  • On Tuesday Feb. 16, the Sawtooth Botanical Garden hosts a Mardi Gras Party. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. For reservations call 726-9358
