Pink Power
It’s a pink-power, girl-thing kind of weekend in the Valley, and it starts tonight.
In Hailey tonight (Thursday, Jan. 7) it's gals night all over town. There will be discount specials on food and beverages at Zou 75 and other establishments just for the ladies. Look for pink balloons (as above) all around town: the sign for discounts for women, organized by the South Valley Merchant Alliance.
Even our hockey players are into girl power this weekend. When you catch the Sun Valley Suns play the Utah’s Cache Valley Trappers at the Sun Valley Indoor Ice Rink on Saturday, the game will benefit for Girls On The Run, a sports oriented empowerment program for young girls. Suns games on Friday and Saturday start at 7 p.m. Entry is $8 entry for adults. (www.sunvalleysuns.com).
Now this is way too good to pass up. Everyone (you, me, men and boys, anyone!) can ski free on the Blaine County Recreation District’s Nordic Trails on Sunday, Jan. 10. There will also be free half hour lessons from 1 to 3 p.m., at the Quigley Nordic Winter Park in Hailey. Get free rentals and set up lesson times at Sturtevants in Hailey 788-7847. For more information call 788-2117 or www.bcrd.org.
Getting back to pink things…The new (and cutely named and very bright pink) Mountain Fairy Shuttle offers transportation from Ketchum to Galena Lodge this winter beginning Saturday, Jan. 9. This joint effort between Blaine County Recreation District and Mountain Fairy owners Aris and Randy Flood should go down well with residents and tourists alike as we all try to solve logistical problems for exploring the north valley trail system. Riding the Mountain Fairy also helps reduce parking congestion, traffic and your carbon footprint.
North Valley Trail Cross Country skiers can ride the Mountain Fairy north and ski south to Sawtooth National Recreation Area headquarters or the reverse. Likewise, out-of-town tourists without rental cars can rent the shuttle for a round trip ride to and from Galena Lodge.
Mountain Fairy will offer four weekends of scheduled service for Boulder Mountain Tour training through Jan. 31. Saturdays and Sundays there will be a scheduled northbound departure from the SNRA headquarters at 10am and a southbound departure from Galena Lodge at 2pm with appropriate stops along highway 75. Weekdays, the Fairy is available for reservations offering a flat rate for passenger parties up to 14.
The cost will range between $6-$15 per/person, entire van reservations range between $50-$70. Call for reservations and details 208-720-0776
