Get your kicks

For music fans of all ilks, this not-so-quiet January week offers a lot of options.

  • On Wednesday, Jan. 6, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., the Sun Valley Summer Symphony’s beloved conductor Alasdair Neale will meet with the Symphony’s Crescendo Club, a new group appealing to classical fans in the under 50-ish crowd. The casual meet & greet will be held at Sego, the hot and hip new-American restaurant in downtown Ketchum. There will be hors d'oeuvres served and while the event is free, space will be limited. Contact the Symphony office to RVSP at 622-5607 or mckenzie@svsummersymphony.org.

  • If you are in the mood for a bit of lounge music, check out the action in Sun Valley. The talented young New York pianist Brooks Hartell plays at the Inn Lobby Lounge from 5 to 8 p.m. every Monday through Saturday.

  • Across the village, the Bruce Innes Trio entertains each Monday, from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. at the Duchin Lounge in the Sun Valley Lodge.

  • Picking up again on Tuesday, the always entertaining and danceable Paul Tillotson Trio entertains the Duchin Lounge through Saturday from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m.

  • On Sundays, Leanna Leach entertains in the Duchin Lounge from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

  • If you want a little more chortles with your tunes, take in Mike Murphy's après ski comedy show in the Boiler Room every Wednesday at 6 p.m.

  • On Friday, Sheryll Mae Grace and Freehand will play at 6:30 p.m. at Papa Hemi’s Hideaway in Ketchum.

  • Piers Lamb will open for Finn Riggins (just back from a successful and lengthy tour) at the new and improved Whiskey Jacques’.

  • And the following night, Saturday, Jan. 9, the Hillbilly Hellcats take the stage. All shows are at 10 p.m.

  • Even your Italian meals can be accompanied by music. At Il Naso in Ketchum, the acoustic folk band No Cheap Horses entertains each Friday from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.

  • And in Belleuve, the fabulous Kim Stocking Band will play at the Silver Dollar Saloon on Friday at 9 p.m. to officially kick in the winter of 2010.

Get your kicks.

About This Blog

Who, What, Where, Now!

Dana DuGan is always on the search for culture, arts, music and a good time. DuGan has written about just those things for more than a decade in the Wood River Valley for various publications and websites. Most days she can be found in her garden, which happens to have the best view (Carbonate Ridge), or at her laptop in one of the valley's many coffee shops. Both activities connect her to the wider world. Known for a certain New York brashness, she comes by it honestly and means no harm. DuGan is a mother of two sincerely nutty girls, who also believe that “The world belongs to the enthusiast who keeps her cool.”
