Brief, Bustling and Bodacious

February is short and, if you like, extremely busy. The Valley brims with culture and recreation this month. Buzz Chick (that’s me) is finding there is never a good time to leave the Valley anymore, so busy and fun do we keep ourselves, all winter long.

Sun Valley Nordic Festival

The newly minted Sun Valley Nordic Festival convenes this week with a free concert at the future site of the Sun Valley Center for the Arts, at West Fourth Street and Second Ave. (across from the Ketchum Post Office) on Thursday, Feb. 4 at 5:30 p.m.

The band Sol’Jibe promises a high-energy, highly danceable performance. The band’s inspired sound is a kind of World Pop and draws from extensive travels to Spain, Cuba and Central America, where the band mates studied folkloric rhythms and culture. In addition to great music, the evening will include friendly Nordic races, a bonfire, a snowshoe dance competition and warm refreshments for the whole family. The evening is part of an annual weeklong celebration of Nordic skiing and is presented by Sun Valley Center for the Arts, Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation, The Elephant’s Perch and Blaine County Recreation District.

Meanwhile, in town…

Idaho musician Ethan Tucker will returns for a special performance at the Roosevelt Grille on Friday, Feb. 5 at 10:15 p.m.. Known for his mix of reggae, blues, and soul, Ethan just returned from a tour on the East Coast, where he was selling out shows wherever he played. There is no cover charge.
