Harvest Festival Fun

Harvest Festival Fun

Fall in Sun Valley is fabulous; which is why it’s my (and lots of other locals) favorite time of the year. The leaves are changing, town slows down from its summer rush and the evenings have a cool nip in the air. To help celebrate the season, last Friday I grabbed my friend, Colleen Gilligan, and we hit the Sun Valley Harvest Festival’s Restaurant Walk.

We met at Ketchum Town Square where Viking was having a demonstration on grilling meat. Note to self: We need a new grill. Viking’s grill was beautiful and the meat was cooked perfectly. From there we headed to Vintage Restaurant, where we had barbecue ribs and Frenchman’s Wine. Vintage’s shaded lawn area was so cozy and comfortable. After our finger-lickin’ ribs were finished, we crossed the street to Cornerstone Bar & Grill where we sat at the “glowing bar” and had salad on flatbread, paired with a dry white wine. This concoction was right up my alley, as I’m a salad and bread nut. From Cornerstone, we rounded the corner (pun intended) and stopped by SEGO for some pork belly sandwiches. Holy cow! These were so good. I nearly embarrassed myself by almost finishing one in one bite, then grabbing another one. I wondered... what is the etiquette when sampling appetizers… should I only have one? Or are two acceptable? How about three? I stopped at two and we walked over to Rickshaw. After several glasses of wine, Rickshaw’s homebrewed root beer was a welcoming way to wash down the marinated pork on skewers. We ended our evening at Il Naso, which has a super cozy, dimly lit bar. Il Naso was serving heirloom tomatoes and parmesan on grilled French bread and was paired with Frenchman’s Wine.

On Saturday afternoon we hit the Harvest Festival’s Beer Garden at Ketchum Town Square. They put down grass on the pavers just for the event and it was a fantastic idea. People could just sit on the grass and enjoy the music, food and beer. We slurped a few tasters of Sun Valley Brewery and Laughing Dog Beer, had kickass king salmon fish tacos from Raspberry’s and listened to Danny Barnes pluck his banjo on a sunny Sun Valley Saturday.

What an enjoyable weekend we had—fabulous food, great wine and beer, good friends and lots of laughter. Isn’t that what life is all about?

Wow what a amazing way to try out so many restaurants. Sign me up for next year! I don't think I can wait that long though to try the SEGO porkbelly yumminess.

You two skinny girls sure can eat a lot in a short time and not gain a pants size! Makes me want to try all that stuff and wash it down with a beer or ten. Thanks for some excellent ideas on how to spend a day in Ketchum.
