Mid-August and the living is easy. And a bit crazed. We’re all rushing to fit in the myriad: fishing, hiking, mountain biking, hiking, concerts, art shows, the Sun Valley Summer Symphony, dinners with friends…the list is endless. But mind you, it takes some perseverance. But then you’ve got that, right? That, a healthy helping of chutzpah and lots of energy—or you wouldn’t have come to Idaho in the first place.
Wednesday, August 12
- Tonight a benefit for the Wood River Fire and Rescue will be held at the Back Alley Party at theWhiskey Burnin’ in Hailey with music by Whiskey Burnin’. Raffle tickets, which include tickets to upcoming concerts, beer and wine sales are split between the beneficiary and the band. Always one of the best parties of the week.
- Take a peak inside Hollywood at The Community Library tonight at 6 p.m. "Lights, Camera, Votes" will feature Dan Glickman of Spyglass Entertainment and former CBS executive Van Gordon Sauter speaking on the Hollywood rating system.
Thursday, August 13
- The Sun Valley Summer Symphony continues its season with six more shows. Though the middle section in the Sun Valley Pavilion are reserved for patrons, there is seating available inside or on the grass beyond. The Symphony is, as always, gloriously, generously, incredibly free.
- The Drive-by Truckers will play in Elkhorn. The nationally known and critically acclaimed band, Drive by Truckers plays pure southern-fried rock n’ roll. The San Diego-based Dirty Sweet opens. (www.elkhornconcerts.com). There are bus shuttles from Bellevue, Hailey and Ketchum, along with the return of the notorious bike valets. Childcare will be available and food and drink concessions at the show.
- A street party fundraiser for the Hailey Fire Department’s Burnout Fund will be held at the corner of Main and Croy streets in Hailey at 5 p.m., with music by Slow Children Playing. There will be food and refreshments for sale.
- FourStroke Buss will play at the Sun Valley Brewery in Hailey from 7-10 p.m.
Coming Up
- The Sun Valley Center for the Arts will present a two-band concert with both Mishka and Donovan Frankenreiter on Saturday, August 15 in Ketchum.
- Relay for Life will begin Friday and run through Saturday at the Wood River High School. (www.relayforlife.org/blainecountyid) To celebrate a local survivor, forward a name and contact phone number to Sandy Kelly, 788-7540 or sandy4relay.com.
