The Sublime and Genetic Engineering

The Sublime and Genetic Engineering

Kind of Blue by Mary Henry at Sun Valley Center

On Sunday, the Israel-based violinist Vadim Gluzman played to a packed house at the Sun Valley Summer Symphony. His performance, recognized by extended standing ovations from both the audience and fellow musicians, was technically brilliant, moving, sure, subtle, speedy and virtuosic. In some ways, one could say Gluzman’s performance is a reflection of Sun Valley in the summer. There are so many ways in which to divert one’s self. It can be as brilliant as anywhere in the world, and yet subtle influences are always at work. The new Center exhibition, Modern Parallels, is yet another example of the sublime creative energy on display today in our Valley. Visit the Center in Ketchum to see artwork by Mary Henry and Helen Lundeberg, two women whose modernism is exhibited in more than forty paintings, drawings and lithographs.
