Symphony, Back Alley Party, Fashions on Ice

Aug 5, 2009 - 01:54 PM

Such a week it was and will continue to be. The Northern Rockies Folk Festival was a winner once again. The YMCA benefit hit the ball out of the park. Company of Fools finished a great month of theatre. And Laughing Stock’s “Main Street Cabaret” played to packed houses.

As Henry V once said (sort of, thanks to Shakespeare): “People that were not there will think themselves accursed and hold themselves cheap...” You get the idea. More fun in the sun is on its way in the next three days, though the temperatures will have an un-cool chill for this time of the year. Go deep and remember the layers.

Wednesday, August 5th

  • The Sun Valley Summer Symphony 2009, (www.svsummersymphony.org), continues tonight at 6:30 p.m. (with a pre-concert talk at 4 p.m. at the Sun Valley Pavilion).

The Symphony is free and open to all. The Pavilion will open at 5:30 p.m., and seat saving inside will be allowed if at least half of a group is occupying the seats.

  • The Damphools will play at the Back Alley Party tonight at 6 p.m. at the Wicked Spud in Hailey. The event benefits The Hunger Coalition and will include a canned food drive. Sales of beer, wine, tee shirts and raffle tickets benefit designated organizations each week.

Thursday, August 6th

  • Fashions on Ice will take place at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 6, at Sun Valley’s outdoor ice rink. Models and professional show skaters will model local clothiers' fall lines in a tribute to Fashion Week, which is being celebrated in New York, Paris, London, Milan and Russia. Now that’s a concept one has to see to believe.

Tickets are available ($10 for adults, $5 for children) at Chapter One in Ketchum, Tater Tots in Hailey or at the door. Proceeds benefit Sun Valley Figure Skating Club, a 5019(c) not-for-profit. For details call 622-8060 or log on to www.sunvalleyfsc.com

Friday, August 7th

  • On Friday, Aug. 7, gear up for the Sun Valley Center’s annual Arts & Crafts Festival at Atkinson Park in Ketchum.
  • Gallery Walk
  • Sun Valley Summer Symphony.
