Who, What, Where, Now!
Ready, Set, Summer
Rain or no rain, the holiday weekend proved once again that our valley is one lively place to celebrate the Fourth of July. Despite looming clouds, all went off fine, from music to parades to antique fairs and more. But the summer fun ain’t over till the sun sets on labor Day. Every day from here to there is packed with activities. Check the calendar for the total buzz.
Tonight, Monday, July 6, celebrate the spiritual side of freedom with a rare performance by baritone James Martin of Jackson, Mississippi.
Martin will perform some two-dozen hymns and spirituals including "Emancipation's Jubilation" at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Ketchum. Pianist Dorinda Rendahl will accompany him. The free show will begin at 8 p.m. Monday, July 6. Donations will be accepted for the Barry Keller Fund, which underwrites special music programs for St. Thomas Playhouse and the St. Thomas church choir.
On Tuesday, head to Ketch’em Alive, the north valley’s party of the week. Sherryl Mae Grace (Gabumpa) and friends will open for Albino from Boulder in the Forest Service Park. Sheryl will begin at 7 p.m. and the Albino comes on at 7:30 p.m. The show is free and picnics are welcome.
Also on Tuesday, the Company of Fools Summer Fools Festival continues with the pay-what-you-feel preview of “Steel Magnolias” at 7 p.m. at the Liberty Theatre in Hailey. Visit www.companyoffools.org or call 578-9122 for tickets and the schedule for the month-long repertory.
