As we plow into September we have much to be grateful for, including a summer of no monstrous fires, a summer in which good music of all kinds reigned and of course the community’s desire to keep on playing. That’s what we like to see. More. More eclectic music, more film festivals and more vital community interaction.
The Local Buzz will take a brief, end-of-summer break next week, but stay tuned this fall for all that buzzes on the Valley floor.
Wednesday, Sept. 9
- At the Sawtooth Botanical Garden on Wednesdays through the month there will be yoga, from 5:30 - 6:30 pm., with Kathryn Goldman and Tyson Deal. Space is limited. Call 726-9358 to register.
- Papa Hemi's Hideway features live music fireside every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday in the brewpub lounge or on the Baldy-view fire-pit patio in Ketchum.Tonight from 6:30-9:30 p.m. Fred Crabtree will play original American and Idaho Cowhand Campfire Folk.
- The Community Library will hold a reception and public viewing of arts exhibit, Re-Bound: An Exhibition of Altered Book at 6 p.m. The books will remain on display in the Library through October 9. More than 20 local artists have breathed new life into discarded books, altering and transforming them into works of art. There are many techniques used in this creative exhibition. www.thecommunitylibrary.org.
- The Sun Valley Brewery on Main Street in Hailey will present Wisebird, a swingin’ Americana band from Austin, Texas, at 8 p.m. Cover charge $5.
Thursday, Sept. 10
- The Sun Valley Center for the Arts invite people to enjoy a glass of wine while they tour Modern Parallels: Mary Henry and Helen Lundeberg gallery exhibit at The Center in Ketchum with the curator Courtney Gilbert. www.sunvalleycenter.org.
Friday, Sept. 11
- The Magic Lantern Film Festival begins tonight and runs through Sept. 24. It will screen such films as In The Loop, Cherie, The Cove and Moon. Check www.magiclanterncinemas.com for schedule.
Saturday, Sept. 12
- Organized by Kristine Bretall, The second annual LiveStrong Day Ketchum 2009 will be held in the Forest Service Park in Ketchum from 2:30-6 p.m. There will be a group bike ride, criteriums including a costume contest, music with Hickory Blue and food in the park. Tax-deductible donations go to support the Lance Armstrong Foundation, which raises money through grassroots efforts support the Foundation’s mission to inspire and empower people affected by cancer. The crits are divided up into age categories: kids $5 and adults $20.
Sunday, Sept. 13
- Join a class on Canning and Preserves at Sawtooth Botanical Garden, from 1-4 p.m. Bring the entire family because there are fun jobs for even the littlest hands. Cost is $10 for Members and $15 for Non-Members. Discounts available if you supply your own materials. Scholarships are available. Pre-registration required. Tuesday, Sept. 15
- Sawtooth Botanical Garden presents Herbs and Meditation for Stress, from 6 - 7:30 p.m. Led by by Ryan Redman, with a focus on medicinal plants and meditation techniques that can help us through these stressful times. Early registration required. Call 726-9358 for more information. www.sbg.org.
