Who, What, Where, Now!

Homeward Bound

Aug 21, 2009 - 01:59 PM

How far are you from home? Chances are you’re there, or just a plane flight away. But Idaho’s prized anadromous fish, chinook and sockeye salmon, have a much more arduous journey home. In fact, salmon travel 900 miles and conquer a 6,500-foot elevation gain on their return trips to the streams and lakes of their birth. Go to Stanley for salmon spawning tours, food, music and libations on Saturday and Sunday, when the 10th annual Sawtooth Salmon Festival welcomes returning fish. As well, there are musical events and races such as the John Francis 5k Alturas Race (www.bluecirclesports.com) and Elephant’s Perch Annual Shop to the Top (both Saturday).
