Buckle up, Buttercup because this is the week to get your cowboy (or cowgirl) on. After the wild ride that was July, we can all take a deep breath, have a crisp martini while viewing fine art, listen to classical music at the Sun Valley Pavilion and enjoy an authentic western Rodeo and Fair.
Monday, August 3
- The Blaine County Fair and Rodeo runs from today, August 3 through Saturday, Aug. 8 at the Blaine County Fairgrounds in Carey. Some of the highlights include:
• ATV & Motorcycle Rodeo, Thursday, Aug 6. For details: 720-2488.
• Family BBQ & Entertainment, Friday, Aug 8. Dinner 6-8 pm: $7 Adults, $4 children under 10, $5 Senior Citizens Saddlestrings Country Music, 6:30-7:30 p.m.
• Rodeos on Friday & Saturday, Aug. 7-8. For details: 720-2488.
• Native American Flutist Hovia Edwards, Saturday, Aug 8, 1 p.m.
• Cowboy Poet Stan Tixier, Saturday, Aug 8, 11 a.m.
- The Sun Valley Summer Symphony begins tonight for its 25th season in the gorgeous Idaho mountains. It’s now the largest privately funded free admission symphony in the country. Under the leadership of Maestro Alasdair Neale, the orchestra has grown to more than 100 players. Picnics and families are more than welcome. The Pavilion opens at 5:30 for seating each night’s 6 p.m. show. This week there are concerts on Monday and Wednesday through Sunday.
Tuesday, Aug. 4
- Music-Martinis-Memories will be held at Gilman Contemporary in Ketchum to benefit Camp Rainbow Gold, on Tuesday, Aug. 4. A collection by painter Ashley Collins will be on exhibit with a portion of proceeds from the sale of each Ashley Collins painting that night and throughout the month. The event will be catered by Zou 75 and Judith McQueen Entertaining and sponsored by Toby Lambert. Tickets are only $65. Call 726-7585.
- Ketch ‘Em Alive will kick off at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Forest Service Park, First Street and Washington Ave. in Ketchum. The Ketchum World Beat Street Band will open for The Cosmic Beans. Picnics are welcome, and drinks are sold at the park.
Wednesday, Aug. 5
- On Wednesday, get ready for a new spate of more live music, from Papa Hemi’s in Ketchum to a canned food drive for the Hunger Coalition at the Back Alley Party in Hailey.
