A High Time is Upon Us

Feastival@Basecamp

Now that high season has passed us by, folks can find parking spaces in town again, see old friends out walking, and dine without making a reservation a week in advance. It's also time to begin looking inward again. (The high tourist season has passed, but the Jewish holy high holidays are just underway.) Spirituality is in the air. Like quaking aspen leaves, we are bumping into all those issues that we put off while we are busy doing other things.

This Weekend

  • “What’s not to love about compassion, love and caring?” This quote is from the documentary “The Dhamma Brothers,” which will screen this weekend during the fifth annual Sun Valley Spiritual Film Festival. This movie about meditation in prisons, and 23 others, will be shown at the Sun Valley Opera House to start at 12:30 p.m. Friday and running through Monday evening.

Several speakers are scheduled to speak, including several of the film’s directors and producers. Matthieu Ricard, Buddhist monk, author, photographer and French interpreter for the Dalai Lama, will sign books and speak at 6:30 p.m. Thursday Sept. 24 at The Community School Auditorium. For more information and the film schedule visit www.svspiritualfilmfestival.org.

  • Also this weekend is Feastival @ Basecamp, a two-day gathering approximately 25 miles from Sun Valley over Trail Creek. The event will feature camping, yoga, live music, family-style dinners and fly-fishing workshops on relationships, community building and children with speakers such as John Furey, Peggy and Dale Bates and Wade Port.

For more information, tickets, yurt reservations and directions go to http://web.me.com/benreel/Feastival.
