This “lightning-paced” musical will be debuting on July 4th with a “Pay What You Feel” opening night, running through July 28th at the Liberty Theater in Hailey.  Writer Jim Luigs has taken Wagner’s world-famous opera, the Ring Cycle, and spun it into two acts of Texas hilarity.  With plenty of big laughs, big hats and sassy southern humor, DAS BARBECÜ is not your everyday opera-inspired play.  “The show is the perfect summer entertainment—it’s colorful, it’s musical and it’s hilarious,” says Denise Simone, Company of Fools’ core company artist.

Even if you’re not a big fan of Wagner, or opera in general, you will still be able to enjoy the witticisms and dizzying array of big-haired characters. Five actors—Rachel Abrams, Beth Hilles, Duke Lafoon, Mike Tilford and Debra Wagoner—will be running back and forth across the stage, playing all 30 characters in the musical. The plot itself is simple enough to follow … hopefully. There’s this couple, a gold ring and a clan of Gibich who want the ring (or something like that).  “It's like Lord of the Rings combined with the Real Housewives of Dallas and a Charlie Daniels soundtrack,” says Denise.  “And even if you can't follow it exactly, it’s still very entertaining.”

The Company of Fools kicks off summer with a little Southern-style.With music by Scott Warrender and an art team including director R. L. Rowsey, Joe Lavigne (Set Designer), Jay Ryan (Guest Lighting Designer), Ted Macklin (Sound Design) and K.O. Ogilvie (Stage Manager), combined with a bit of Mike’s Hard Lemonade, beer and s’mores by Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, this is sure to be a great way to kick off summer giggling, ice-cold beer bottle in hand.

Regular tickets for DAS BARBECÜ are $30 for adults, $20 for seniors and $10 for students. Group discounts are available. There is also a “Pay What You Feel” preview on July 4th, an “Educator’s Night” on July 5th where any and all educators can reserve two $10 tickets and a “Girl’s Night Out,” with discounted tickets, chocolate and champagne on July 7th.

Das Barbecu: Lord of the Rings meets the Real Housewives of Dallas.Tickets may be purchased online at companyoffools.org, by phone at 208.578.9122 or at the Box Office, located at 110 N. Main Street in Hailey, one hour prior to curtain. Recommended for ages 11 and up.

“It’s just too fun to miss,” says Denise.  So make sure you don’t.
