Who, What, Where, Now!
What’s in a Name?
With a new puppy to name, I’ve been thinking a lot about names. The only clue we have to our past may be our name. But a first name can be as random as naming a dog after a flower. Ancestor’s family names were often tweaked and changed upon arrival at Ellis Island. For many people in the Wood River Valley, their towns or countries of origin are even further away than the Statue of Liberty’s welcoming profile. So we reinvent ourselves upon arrival here. We create family units out of friends, marry people our families don’t know and give our children oddball names. It’s what makes the area exciting, fresh and special.
