Numbers Never Lie
Celebrity Numerologist Glynis McCants shares the power of numbers
When you first hear Glynis McCants share her theories it’s easy to think that she’s not actually a numerologist, but that’s she really a psychic.
After learning little more than your birthday and name, Glynis will know more about you and your passions, strengths and struggles than most people who’ve known you your whole life.
And you don’t have to take my word for it. It has taken Glynis, the “Celebrity Numerologist,” mere minutes to blow the minds of everyone from Dr. Phil and Leeza Gibbons (check out the short video compilation) to the countless of readers of her best-selling books (like “Glynis Has Your Number” and “Love by the Numbers”) to more than 2,500 happily married couples, to good ole Spud-based writers like myself.
Hearing, however, that someone can tell you all about yourself and your keys to happiness simply by adding up the numbers associated with your name and birthday makes many folks feel skeptical. But Glynis doesn’t mind. The power of numerology even caught her by surprise.
When she was a young woman, Glynis couldn’t get over a break up with her first love. She tried everything to mend her broken heart, but new hobbies, new dates, new routines nothing was healing her. Finally, out of exasperation, she went to see a “psychic” a friend recommended.
It turned out that the “psychic” was really a numerologist. After running the numbers for Glynis, her ex and his mom and sister, she told Glynis that she actually had a bad match with her first love but strong connections with his mom and sister and that’s probably what she was really missing.
“It just made so much sense. I was instantly over him,” Glynis explained from her home in Southern California, as we chatted on the phone recently about her speaking engagement this weekend* for the Sun Valley Wellness Institute. “Numerology found me. I didn’t find it.”
Blessed with a natural inclination towards numbers, Glynis began looking into numerology, which is largely based upon the Pythagoras theorem—something most of us haven’t given much thought to since high school. The science of numbers behind numerology, as Glynis explains it, is pretty simple: by adding up the numbers of your birthday date, for example, until it becomes a single digit, you come up with a Life Path Number. Each letter in the alphabet is associated with a number as well.
Glynis eventually began incorporating numerology into her act as a stand up comedian, which led to an appearance on the extremely popular KFI Talk Radio station in L.A., where her planned 20-minute session lasted three hours. After that, her work as a numerologist really began to multiply.
“Everything in the Universe has a vibration,” explained Glynis, who became a professional numerologist in 1995. She said that every person, place and thing—even things like an email address—gives off vibrations or energy that can be linked to its number.
“Have you ever gone someplace that just feels familiar and comfortable to you?” she asked, to which I naturally answered in the affirmative. “Well then that place has a good number for you. Sometimes, though, you might go someplace that doesn’t feel right, even if it’s supposed to be someplace great and it may be for other people, but it still feels toxic to you. That’s the numbers, too, and the same thing applies to people. When a person gives you a bad ‘vibe,’ that’s numerology. We don’t realize that we’re using it all the time.”
Glynis, who prefers to use her powers for good and tries to focus on the positive aspects of anyone’s numbers, then offered to run mine. Within a minute she was blowing my mind—and not just because she said my boss should give me a raise (apparently my numbers match well with the name Sun Valley Magazine).
“Once I’ve got your numbers you can run, but you cannot hide!” she said with a hearty laugh before proving to me that the numbers never lie.
Glynis explained my Life Path (6), Attitude (7), Soul (2) and Name (9) and then pretty much described me to a tee, from my work habits and inner drives to some challenges I stumble through regularly. She even finally made it clear to me why ever since I was little I’ve pretty much never liked being called by my full name of Michael—the number of that name doesn’t jive well with the rest of me.
“It does sound psychic because it’s accurate,” she said.
*[Glynis will be doing a Numerology Workshop in Sun Valley this Saturday at All Things Sacred in Ketchum from 10:30am to 5pm, where she will share the paths to happiness, career success and true love as revealed by your numbers. The sessions, sponsored by the Sun Valley Wellness Institute, are purposely being kept small so that attendees will have a chance to really interact with Glynis. She was kind enough to offer a discount to anyone who mentions seeing this story when purchasing tickets.
