Meet My Pet: The Glicks, Spencer and Remy

We know that Sun Valley-ites love their animals, whether they are dogs, cats, fish, falcons, horses, hares, geckos, gerbils or chickens. We take our dogs on hikes or into art galleries, we train carrier pigeons and ride horses every day. Just how would we live without our furry, feathered or scaled friends?

So for this edition of "Meet My Pet," meet best friends, Remy and Spencer. The cat and dog of Nancy and Josh Glick.

Pet's Name?

Remy and Spencer.

What's in a name? How did your pet get its moniker?

Remy’s daddy is named Macallan after Macallan Scotch and we wanted to keep the booze name in the family. So we named after Remy Martin Cognac. And she’s fancy and cognac is pretty darn fancy.

Spencer came from the Animal Shelter of the Wood River Valley with his name and it’s so perfect, I couldn’t imagine changing it.

Type (dog, cat, horse, amphibian, reptile...) and breed (if applicable)?

Remy is an English Cream Golden Retriever. 

Spencer is a tabby barn cat.

Age (in human years)?

Remy one and a half.

Spencer is three, we think.

How did you meet? How did your pet come into your life?

We had puppies.  As in, we bred the mom, Tula, with a champion in Colorado. It was actually one of the most wonderful and rewarding experiences in my life.  Doing the research and learning how to breed responsibly is a very serious task.  I loved every minute of the process.

Spencer came to us from the Animal Shelter.  He was very unhappy at the Shelter and I got a call from them asking if we could give him a try.  Spencer is the perfect cat for our life.  He couldn’t have been a better match.  He lives in our barn but is a very social barn cat.  He and Remy are best buds and really love hanging out together.  Spencer will even come on family walks.  I imagine it is pretty silly to see two people walking two dogs and a cat. 

What do you love about your pet?

I love that Spencer and Remy are total buddies.
I love that Spencer will come on walks with the family.
I love when Spencer sleeps on his back atop a dirt pile.
I love that Remy loves Spencer so much.

What drives you crazy about your pet?

Spencer sprays so he cannot come in the house.
Also, Spencer will sit in the window and watch us when he feels like he should be let inside.  It makes me feel creeped out.

Favorite Saturday activity with your pet?

Spencer likes to work in the shop with my husband
Remy likes to hike the hills around our house.

Your pet's favorite Saturday activity with you?

Spencer and Remy like to chase each other around the yard and hunt.  If it’s nice enough to hang out in the yard, they will both roll around on their backs and do mad cat/mad dog “dances” around us.

Pet's favorite treat?

For both of them it seems to be mice, mice, mice.

Pet's special skill?

Both Remy and Spencer are master mousers. They work together sometimes.

How does your pet add to your quality of life?

They remind me to lighten up every day. 
They remind me to love with great depth. 
They remind me how to be silly.
