With Turkey Day behind us, ‘tis the season for indulging our most beloved creatures. And because I believe that every animal deserves a treat for the holidays, I compiled a list that will allow you to support businesses in your backyard while finding the perfect present for your favorite pet.

Tasty Treats

These handcrafted, fresh-baked treats are preservative-free and made with human-grade, all-natural ingredients. Four flavors can be found in stores throughout the Valley and online. My two pups highly recommend the Bebe Snaps and Loki Bites.

Grand Gear

This company creates high-quality dog accessories that are durable, functional and beautiful. All of their products are designed and manufactured in Idaho. A Titus Lake Leash or a Sawtooth Camo Jacket might be the perfect stocking stuffer.

Farm-Fresh Feast

From elk antler bones to Prairie Sun Farm dog treats, Idaho's Bounty is an online food market that provides one-stop shopping for you and your animals. Maybe it’s time for them to change their tagline to “Local Food for Local People (and Pets Too!).”

Mutt Makeover

  • The Dirty Beagle (208) 788-6755

Touted as the Valley’s only do-it-yourself dog wash, The Dirty Beagle will allow you to pamper your pet for a fraction of the cost of a professional groomer. Tiled tubs, warm water, fluffy towels and lots of treats will make your pooch feel right at home. Take a special trip to this D.I.Y. doggie salon before the in-laws come to dinner.

Barkin' Beans

For those of you who don’t have a pet of your own…Hailey Coffee Company has partnered with the Animal Shelter of the Wood River Valley to provide Barkin’ Beans, a certified organic roast. With each purchase, $2 will be donated to the Animal Shelter. So grab a cup of joe, and support our “no-kill” shelter that provides safe housing to any adoptable animal until a loving home is found.
